44 mag lever gun dot or scope?

Hello all I have a 20" 44 mag lever gun its my home defense, truck, camping/  hunting gun which will be short range 100yrds and less it has skinner peep sights on it now which are nice but I think with my eyes not so good I might need to go to something lighted what are your opinions thanks.

I think for 100 or less you should go red dot, or. Ive seen a red dot type of site used on pistols and shotguns that is more of a prisim. Ill try and figure out the brand name. They kind act like a fiber optic but mounts like a red dot.

For a short range rifle I'd opt for the  🔴

Red dot, 100%.  It will do you right well witin a .44mags usable range.

I have a Burris Fastfire on a Ruger 77/44 and it is a sweet little rig.

I was given a cowboy limited marlin 44 lever gun and added a 3x9x40 vortex crossfire. I love that rifle. Dont think you can wrong either way with a dot or a scope. Scopes cheaper and more accurate imo

I would go with a dot for what you want.  Look at Aimpoint though, it always stays on with long, long battery life.  For what you are using it for, don't go with a cheap dot, which is pretty much anything other then Aimpoint.

I think you're referring to a See-All open sight. I have them on a couple of  rifles and they would be good for this application.
Another option is a low powered scout scope. I have a 2x on my .44 mag carbine and really like it for 100 yards and in.

My two cents...  Which is worth exactly that...

if you are using for home defense, make sure the red dot you have either:
-Is fiber optic and does not require batteries.
-Turns on and off based on motion so that the battery life is preserved.  (Cannot tell you how many red dots I have put in the safe "on" only to find the battery dead when I want to use it.). 

Depending on batteries in a self defense situation carries risks.

Yup tye See All is what i was thinking. I shot a gun with one. I prefer normal sites but for low light and or somenone with vision issues it may be perfect.

Love my 44 lever.  I have hunted with it open sight (successfully)  and scoped (unsuccessfully).  Hard to beat a scope for hunting, and I feel you on the aging eyes issue, but honestly for home defense with a .44 carbine I wouldn’t spend the money on a red dot.  Point shoot that sucker and just fire until target is down.  Unless you are defensive shooting more than ten yards, but then that’s not self-defense it’s a gunfight.    Granted there is something about a lever gun that makes you think you might have to fight off bandits from the top of the coach.  😂

I think the red dot shines in the 50-70 yard range. 100 is pushing it, especially in the woods.

I'm voting scope.
