Antler Care
« on: November 20, 2020, 07:51:14 PM »
I have never found a shed, let alone one that was broken off until today. I found a pretty giant 4pt that seemed to be broken off pretty near the base, but splintered up, and fairly recently. I left it there and marked it on my GPS because a portion of it was black and had small bugs all over it. Can an antler rot? would it still be safe if I put it in a bag, took it home and gave it a good cleaning?

 Maybe shot off?

No antlers do not rot like flesh. They are calcium just as bones are, go get that bad boy.
Just tend your own and live.

I cant figure how to get the pics to upload from my phone. It started to stink and what appeared to be a little blood thawed out from it once I got it in my car.

Some sheds will have blood inside for some reason so Im sure a broken off one can too. Take a screen shot of the pics and then try posting.

Cool find man! I found a shed with a broken brow tine and I leaned it up in the corner and left it for a day. When I got home there was a big pool of blood that drained from the broken tine all over my floor. Luckily it was a very fresh shed. The old ones I've found that have done that smell absolutely aweful!!

I always think it must be impossible to break off a tine but then I watch them fight on a video, and they can generate ALOT of power!!!

From the looks of it I would guess it was shot off.
