Putting whiskers on my Drenalin
« on: April 18, 2009, 04:02:37 AM »
I was on the Mathews site & in their Tech faq is a detailed description on putting whiskers on a Mathews. The author is an archery shop owner & swears at how much quieter the whisker string silencers make your bow. My question is has anyone every done this to their drenalin ? And how was the results ? I ordered the material yesterday ( cheap) & still debating on putting it on my bow. I know it will slow my bow a little but I'm intrigued with the idea of a quieter bow. My Mathews is quieter than my older Hoyt I replaced but could be better. Thanks for any input. Mike

Mike- I didn't notice to much of a difference on my DXT so I left them off. I would say that your Drenalin is just as quiet if not more so than a DXT. IMO

After shooting it a hundred times or so don't the whiskers start to break off with contact with the other cables?

I went on the Mathews site & found a write up from a bow dealer from Canada. He uses a tougher material that is suppose to last the life of the string. He also ties a constrictor knot first top & bottom to keep the whiskers from moving. I received my material from him yesterday & am excited to install & see a difference. Now I need to find someone with a bow press. Mike

Way to jump in there Mike! It may be just whiskers this time but it's a start on DIY bow mechanics. See if you can locate a bowmaster press, kinda a pain to work with as a beginner but it will be invaluable in the field if something goes wrong while hunting. I usually recommend guys use a digital camera and take pic's of your cables and strings and document how they are placed on the bow, that way if/when something happens you have a reference of how to put it back until your more familiar with your bow. But the more you tinker with it the more familiar and comfortable you will become.

I bought a press from a guy off archery talk classifieds.  It's called the Omni Press.  $274 with a draw station and U-bolts for split limb bows shipped to your door.  He is out of Montana and builds them on order so it takes a couple weeks but for the money it is worth every cent!

Also, I don't know if the Drenalin has a string stop/suppressor on it but they are amazing at how much they will quite your bow down.  I put one on my Guardian which is already one of the quitest bows out and it made it even quieter.

I agree with the string suppressor being one of the best inventions for quieting bows in recent memory.  Plus, they get rid of string slap if your form isn't always the best.  I bought mine from this guy that used to be on ArcheryTalk all the time.  http://www.meanvarchery.com/index.html  I've ordered several things from him over the years and never had a problem.

Anybody close to Auburn ( within 50 miles ) have a bow press that will press a Mathews Drenalin ? I need to tie a couple of constrictor knots in the string so the whiskers don't slip. I'll pick up twelve pack of beer choice. Would be nice to talk to someone with knowledge & look over my bow. My shop does not have my confidence. I was also wondering  Do they make a meter to measure the level of noise from a bow ? I would like to measure before & after and see if there is a difference. PM or email. Mikexraysales@aol.com . Thanks.  Mike
