I saw a few comments about 45-70.  I use the barnes vor-tx rounds in 7 Mag and 300 Win Mag, and love them.  But when I look at their ballistics chart, their loading for 45-70 seems really low. 2469 ft-lbs at the muzzle and 1509 ft-lbs at 100 yards.  Compared to 3500 ft-lbs at the muzzle and 3000-ish at 100 yards for 300 win mag.  For folks that like the 45-70, are you using much hotter loads, or just thinking it's a close-in brush-gun round?

Thanks, and here's the link to the barnes ballistic data for their cartridges.

Modified to add that I haven't hunted brown bear, and am just commenting on the cartridge discussion...
