Turkey Day Trapping

Every year we try to go out together and check the lines.  I went every year with my dad while he trapped.  With all the different hustle and bustle, it is hard to get both the big kids to go.  We had a good day as always.

When I was in High School, no other day used to get Dad and I in more hot water than "Trapping on Thanksgiving Day".
After a full Day of checking the line, trudging through Swamps, Corn Fields and Cold Mountain Streams,
the only ones more excited than us about diving into the warm food were the Famliy members paitantly awaiting our return.
 Invariably the critter catching would delay us just long enough that a detailed explanaiton would be in order. (Not hard for a couple of Seasoned Lying Fisherman to come up with).

So 1st up is the 43 lb'er my son and I caught Wednesday night.  We brought it to this farm as it is a bit more isolated than where we caught it.  Though there is a healthy yote and bob population at both locations.  The other location has some pets we did not want to pull the predators in on.

Oh yeah, same here - other than the excuse that it just took longer than we thought it was going to.  Every year it is the same scenario, and same excuse. We were only an hour and a half late this year.     Dinner was only our tribe of 5 this year, so not too big a deal.  The three of us got right in and started on the side dishes we were responsible for.  It was a great dinner and a great day as always.

Well Ive got to say, Ive never seen anyone drag a beaver let alone waste them. My Grandkids can skin and put up beaver.

I will be civil here. But  

  I am a nuisance trapper.  WCO ( Wildlife Control Operator). These are nuisance jobs that require a special permit for each job through WDFW.  Note The Conibear in a couple of the pics. I pointed this out in the post with the first beaver pic.  I generally catch between 30 and 50 beaver every year. The fur can not be sold.  Since I don't think siding my house with pelts is a viable option, they get recycled back into the food chain.  I would be wasting my and my families time to do anything more with them.

As for tradition I use to go out every Thanksgiving morning duck hunting.
I haven't done that in years.   
Now I get up and have a couple of cups of coffee and get in my wife's hair   
Then I went out and checked a couple rats traps that I set out two days before.

Duck hunting was my Thanksgiving tradition growing up solo hunting the ponds and creeks within walking distance of the house as soon as I was old enough to solo my dad would hand my his winchester model 37 single shot 16 and 7 shells. Always said "limit is seven so you better only need seven shell's they aren't cheap!" Best I ever did was 3 green wing teal and 2 mallards and I was very pleased with that result but he was a might confused when I handed him 4 shells back  my first ever collateral shot was a thriple on those teals. Since I started trapping it has replaced duck hunting for Thanksgiving tradition but I still pack the ol mossberg incase I see any ducks to add to the feast!
