It used to always be $12/box for Winchester Power Points at Wal-Mart, but I haven't bought any for at least a year, so the price is probably up from that. But it might be worth checking out.
I am unfamiliar with the concept of "breaking in a new barrel" by putting many rounds through it. Breaking in a new shooter, perhaps, would use a lot of ammo...I am not aware of any theory that rifle barrels age (like fine wine?).Ivar
