Any recommendations on a good goose or widgeon call? I am no pro but want good quality.

What type of goose call are you looking for, short reed or flute?

Its unfortunate you asked a little late. Pacific Calls just ran 40% off on duck calls and on goose calls. Based out of spokane, cool guys that run the company and their calls are pretty sweet. I just purchased a PCD duck call and a guide that had it let me try it over the weekend, single reed easy to run, loud, raspy, ducky.

Goose calls are pretty darn good too. If you got the money for their products I'd recommend looking into them or checking out their Facebook fan page (Pacific Calls' Fan page) as some people will sell used ones or trevor or alex will post a sale call occasionally.

We have several great call makers on here depending on what you like.

That said my back up lanyard has a Primos timber wench, and 6 in one whistle. Those 2 calls are CHEAP and they have killed more ducks than the bird flu.

I still use my big river goose Flute for honkers super easy to use and its cheap.

I have a single reed Phelps, & JJlairs. I like the way they sound but to do them justice I should practice more.

I mostly blow double reeds for hunting. Always on my string is the timberwench, I had a wooden Haydel I loved until the guts fell out when hunting. My current favorite is a Tim Grounds Sweet Meet. I also had a Haydel DR85 for a long time. Another great call that is reasonably priced.

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

For ducks a Haydels DR 85. Simplistic, inexpensive, effective.

Easiest to blow and sound good. I've never had a flute.
Thanks for the other reponses too.

Wish I knew about the sale.

My go to call is the primos wench, easy to use and sounds good enough for me! Its put a thousand or so birds on the water.

Goose- Saunders "Traffic" & "I5KLR"

Duck- RNT "Daisy Cutter" (expensive acrylic)
         - Haydel's "DR85" (inexpensive and effective)
         - Primos "original wench" (also inexpensive and effective)

You could do some internet searches and see what are some of the best or most popular.  Their are just so many options these days to choose from.  Lots of custom call makers these days.  If you want some easy calls to learn on that kill ducks look at the Haydel line.  DR-85 has been on just about every seasoned waterfowlers lanyard at some point if it still isn't on it.  Great raspy call that really catch the ducks attention.  Same with the Haydel's Dirty Rice call.  Wingsetter 8 and 1 whistle is a great sounding whistle that I have used for 30 plus years.  Lots of options on goose calls.  I have used a Kelly Powers Triple Crown for years, it needs a new reed.  Also have used a Foiles straight meat honker call for 10 plus years.  I recently picked up a Zink Call of Death goose call and it is an easy blowing good sounding call.  Biggest thing is find or get a call tuned to the way you call.  Lots of guys pick up calls and don't like this one, that one, etc.  If you can learn to cut reeds, shave them, changes the corks or inserts you can tune a call to your style and get a great scounding call out of it.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Check out Pacific calls. I upgraded a little this year and they sound great. I got a 509 but at some point I’d like to get their 4 of a kind. Just found a good deal and like the way they run.

RMC FTM - I've tried it all and this is what kills the most ducks for me.

I like the RMC CWF  or GD3. Great calls and easy to run. The DR85 ftom Hydels is a killer call for the price so is the Echo poly timber.
