Forks Fishing

My brother and I got the itch to do some fishing and we are thinking about heading over to Forks sometime in the next couple of weeks. We would be fishing the Sol Duk, Bogie or the Hoh for whatever bites. I used to do alot of Steelheading over there on those rivers but it was typically in Feb/March and its been a few years now. Is it worth heading over there or is it pretty dead nowadays. Thanks.

Your best bet would be the boggie, lower clawha area around the hatchery.  If there's going to be any hatchery steelhead, they would be there now.

Hatchery fish numbers are pretty dismal in recent years but if ya just wanna be out there wetting a line then ya the Bogi or lower Calawah would be the places to be in December. Good luck

I've heard some people think WDFW might be throwing a wrench into the fishing outlook.  So many rivers around W Washington are under escapement except for a few in the Forks area.  WDFW had some online event, though they barely mentioned peninsula rivers.  The thoughts are they may close a bunch except the Forks rivers (so tons of crowds show up), shut down early or shutdown completely.  Sol Duc is doing the best of the bunch, yet has such spotty access.

State steelhead managers are looking at conservation-based restrictions for this winter’s fishery on Washington Coast rivers.

The options range from closing the coveted late winter/early spring timeframe – when the bulk of natives return – to expanded gear and boat restrictions throughout the season to only opening the Quillayute system to a blanket coastwide closure starting in a week.

Relates to wild fish concerns more than hatchery returns.
