Buy a couple 1000 primer bricks when you can.  Live and learn they are cheap when available.

Yea I paid $200 for a brick couple years ago but was glad to get it.    When they finally came available bought 3 bricks for about $40 each.

Interesting video.  Regarding comments about pricing.  Continuing to post in manner clearly directed at a classified ad here will get the thread removed just like your comnents in the ad itself.  People can, and will ask whatever they are looking to get and if folks buy it that is their choice.

I hope folks that didn't learn the lesson 4 years ago  have the opportunity to learn from this one.

I don't even have a reloader, but when prices were stupid cheap I bought a bunch of primers for my firearm calibers when prices were great. Why? I was darn near at the point of buying a sling shot instead of taking my kids shooting.

When its cheap, Buy Deep and store it...

I always have one brick of small and large rifle/pistol primers. Shotgun 209's have been a hit or miss, picked up another brick last week at normal prices (box store). I go thru a bunch of 209's every year about 2 or 3 bricks.

So I could be confident that the ones I have dated from 94 that are in my basement and have not been wet or major temp swings would still be good?

I have been thru several Primer shortages.

not trying to jack the thread but i have a WWII Russian tokarov that my grandfather brought back (i actually have the government paperwork from him bringing it home) and a box of shells that still go bang.  bought some new rounds for it (7.62X25).  That thing is cool.  still have a bunch of the "original" rounds

More than twice the normal amount on several of them. This is why I refuse to use gunbroker... eBay won’t allow price gouging and will shut your account down but gun broker could care less. I get that it is up to the customer and if they are willing to pay it then it’s their choice but it screws the rest out of a normal deal.

In my view, it's like a 67 Vette, you want one, supply and demand will apply.

For very limited things like gas and food during an emergency, sure, but for stuff that is a want, arms length transactions are the backbone of capitalism.

In a shtf situation there is. I was very surprised how much info there is on how to reload primers. Now is it perfect no is it as good as store bought no is it the most time consuming way in the world to build ammo probably but in the event of you need a bullet to make a kill and survive it's something to have in the mental safe

I think scrap metal price is around $150 a ton but can you imagine what it would cost to shoot a tons worth of primers.  :yike:

I saw a guy selling (not here) 5.56 nato green tip for $2 a round...  at those prices I might consider selling some!

This is my 3rd reloading shortage rodeo. This too shall pass.

I went to Gun Broker and poked around.  looks like the auctions are up to about 200 per 1000 primers (SR and SP).

Amazing...

Not that I can remember where I read it because Its like so much other stuff you read, but I did recently read that gov antis are trying to tie the hands of the lending institutes in order to disrupt the fire arms and related industries.

I am always surprised to see complaints about free markets on a hunting site.  This is an interesting perspective on gouging as a deterrent to hoarding. https://www.johnlocke.org/update/how-price-gouging-laws-subsidize-hoarding/

Back in March Sportsmans warehouse was selling primers for 2 cents.  If you were smart enough to load up, you deserve to be rewarded.  You may have chosen to buy TP instead. That's what makes markets.

Agreed!

The point is that in some places we say the price is gouging, and in some places we gladly pay $100k for a car that sold for $7k new.

If there was a law saying you couldn't sell primers for more than MSRP, there would be exactly zero for sale right now.

Some people find value in buying a box for $200.  They think it's worth $200 to buy one now vs. $35 later.

It's getting rather predictable, every time social media gets worked up, many gun owners think the world is really coming to an end this time and they need another 20,000 rounds of .22 to get through it.

Gouging is charging a bunch for something someone can't live without and you are the only place they can get it.  Primers don't fall into that category for sure.

Meh.  I don't need any, and I'll remember who it was who was attempting to profit in lean times.  It's a small community, and I prefer people know I would have their backs, instead of looking to make a quick buck.

To each his own.

Picked up a tip from co-worker and picked up a 1000 large rifle primers 35 bucks Federal primers.
Starting to think CCI doesn't make primers any more.
But ya even at the store I was at looked like I bought the last box unless they had more in the back.
But I do recommend talking with everybody in your network of peeps sometimes it works out.
Still pretty dry on powder supply
Even though I got a notification from midway yesterday
For blc-2 which is excellent powder for 308,223.
Never mind the blc-2 just looked it sold out already.

I've been making this argument over and over and people just don't seem to get it.  That's a good article that explains it nicely!
I know I've lost it, let me know if you come across it
