Rem-age barrel build.
« on: December 05, 2020, 09:49:09 AM »
I’m considering building a 700 in 7mm08 and while researching barrels I can across this. Anyone have any experience good or bad?

I think if you are even mildly mechanically inclined and have all the necessary tools/items to tighten the barrel nut and set headspace there is no big trick to doing it and if it's a good quality barrel with a well cut chamber it should shoot as well as any.

I've considered going this route on multiple occasions but for me personally I just can't get past looking at that barrel nut, I hate how they look on a rifle, although some are definitely less noticeable than others.

Barrel nut appearance goes un-noticed by many to include myself.  For the do it yourself crowd, the barrel nut is the king.  All mine are Savage, but RemAge is same principle.  Action wrench, nut wrench, go/no go gages, torque wrench, and you are set to minimum headspace in no time.  Neighbor has a RemAge and Savage, same same.

Agree with B23 on looks and would likely blame remage system if I wasn't getting .5 moa when might just be the load.

But still thinking about it,   Jasnt has had great results with his it appears.

Check out the bugnut system

I have several savage rifles that I switched barrels on . No need for a lot of fancy tooling here.

I strongly recommend the tapered recoil lug from northland shooter supply and their action wrench. Makes lining up your recoil lug a breeze and no need to have it pinned.  Been very pleased with his barrels too

I agree with Jasnt as I used the same on my Savage build.

So if I pull the trigger, I found a McGowan barrel I want, then I pick up an action, and the tools needed screw it all together and viola? I’m gonna have questions. You guys willing to help a newbie? I’m assuming the stock will require some special inletting? Is I buy all this would then taking it too a smith be worthwhile?

It shouldnt take much inletting for the nut. Its not much bigger than a typical barrel shoulder
