Do game wardens ever return calls?
« on: December 08, 2020, 06:00:54 PM »
I the past year and a half I have had two "Wildlife Police" (hate that title) give me their cards and cell numbers.
I have at various times called both of them, once about trespassers, and the other time about a potential poaching incident. I have left several messages.
I have never heard back from either one of the guys.
Is this standard procedure? Pretty pathetic behavior imo.
Both of these guys are in Pierce County.

Did you also call WSP or WDFW dispatch after getting their voicemail?

The downside of people having game wardens cell numbers is they'll call that number, get the voicemail, leave a message and do nothing else. You don't know what that officer is doing, he may be on a 2 week vacation and doesn't have his phone, he may be on the other side of the state assisting officers in that area.

I have always told people that if you want to call me directly to report violations fine, but if you get my voicemail leave a message and then call dispatch. I may be on vacation/otherwise unavailable and there may be another officer 10 minutes away and if you don't call dispatch he'll never know about the incident you want to report.

Yup. I've had two very positive follow ups from wardens from issues that we laughed about on here. The jacknob selling deer and the guy selling catfish. Imo the issue isn't with the wardens....it's the wussy system that barely prosecutes people and a process that moves like a glacier.

Interesting replies to my question so far. It kind of supports my suspicion that I might be on their "do not call list".

I have quite a lot of interaction with wardens in several states. In Washington our local wardens have been good about returning calls. In Idaho cougar and moose must be checked, a lot of times the wardens not only call back but even come to my house to do it. My calls have always been returned in Montana and Utah also.

I’m sure it’s just like any other group you want to pick, some are better at it than others. Sometimes people get busy and forget, or they’re not around to get the message, any number of reasons, really. I understand the frustration, though.

I have great respect for Wardens/Wildlife officers but I have had mixed responses in getting replies.

I found an elk calf in the Colockum that had been shot in the neck and had a rear quarter removed.  I called with GPS coordinates in and made a call and had a good response.

Last year I found what looked like an active bear baiting location.  I filed a report with gps coordinates and never heard back.  That was frustrating.  My assumption was that this was not a big enough of a deal for them to bother with given their staffing levels and magnitude of the report I made.  For all I know they went out and checked it out (since I heard nothing I will never know!)

Was that bear baiting in the Monroe area?
