New Hunter
« on: December 03, 2020, 07:23:44 PM »
Hello everyone, I’m a brand new hunter, I grew up shooting and outdoors but never got into hunting.
However I’ve decided I’d like to try out coyote hunting this next year.
I’m looking for any and all advice in regards to how to get into this sport. Locations?
Is it possible to stay on the west side of the Mtn? I’m not adverse to going east side just thinking it’d be easier to get more hunts in if it’s more local.

What gear would everyone recommend or say is a necessity starting out?

Also maybe any recommendations on educational materials(ex. Books) to learn more about coyote/small game hunting in general if that sort of thing even exist.

Thanks in advance everyone, I’m really looking forward to getting into this new hobby and seeing where it takes me.

I don’t have the knowledge on the coyote hunting like some folks on here, but I would recommend that you hunt closer to home. It will allow you more time to hunt, less travel time, more time in the woods allows you to learn your area and see what else might pique your interest. Lots of Roosevelt Elk over there and black tail deer. These and other local game animals might be your next step after mastering the yotes! A few tips on yotes I can lend: calling and decoying works especially near a den, listen for a pack at first/last light to locate den. Get to a vantage point near the den. Be mindful of your scent and movement as they are very keen and quick little critters! Kill some yotes and welcome to the forum!
