Need help with a snowmobile carb
« on: December 14, 2020, 06:33:40 PM »
Mikuni round slide carb, I understand they are used in many ATVs, motorcycles, snowmobiles, etc. so hopefully someone knows how to remedy this problem.

The choke cable pulled out of the choke slide.  It isn’t really a choke but appears to be a small cylinder that allows more fuel into the carb (enricher?) when the “choke” lever is on.  Well, that cylinder is stuck, won’t move up or down.  Corrosion probably.  Is there some way to get it out short of drilling it out?

Not sure if I should keep messing with it or just get a new one.  New ones, there are 2 carbs and both have the same problem.

What kind of sled?  I know the Mikuni that Yamaha used was proprietary to Yamaha.  Did you try YouTube?  Their are some crazy good videos on there.

Ski-doo sled.

Everything on YouTube has you pulling it out by the cable after PB blaster, WD40, heat etc.  It's soaking in PB now but I can't get a grip on it since the cable is off.  I think I'll try drilling a small hole in it and screwing something in that I can get a grip on.

Super common on older sled to have this happen iv delt with many of them. Soak in penetrating oil of your favorite flavor and gentle movements till it breaks free I say gentle as the plunger is usually brass or aluminum and the top tabs that interlock with the cable end bend very easily and will break off. I use an old choke cable with the spring removed and slide it on then gently pry with a small flat head screwdriver up on the cable then push the plunger back down back and forth it will eventually come out about the time you finish ripping your hair out do your best not to scratch the bore or it will overfuel forever from the resulting vacuum leak

Thanks.  I figured this would be a fairly common issue.  I got them loose but haven't got them out yet.  Soaking some more.
