What’s the best general season rifle unit to hunt for mule deer and elk?

They are all pretty tough anymore.  The best one is probably the one you know best.  If you are starting out new take a look at harvest reports for hunter success rates and pick one that is close to you and just start putting in time learning the area.  A unit that you can spend the most time in is the one that you are going to be the most successful in.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

Lol general elk rifle units have success rates around 3% on the east side . Hunting is just a well Armed gathering of friends these days for elk.

Read the harvest reports then look at the map - you will see the best are tons of private land.   Public land without  direct access  = private land.   And big success = Need horses for wilderness treks.

No easy pickens but coukd do worse than Idaho border
