Raccoon went for carrots

Set out a cheap Harbor Freight cage trap, baited with carrots, for nutria.  Raccoon decided he wanted them.   :chuckle:

Nice! Good score. I'll add some carrots to the list of items to try haha. This time of year around here it's getting harder for them to try and find food so I'd imagine they will take anything that sparks their interest.

The area I caught him in is a island in a marsh that has had been basically flooded for a couple weeks.  At one point the trap was completely under water.  Im sure the coon was ready to try anything.

Coons have a lot of fat between the musles, we use to put them in the oven on a rack to render the fat out of them.
