I’ve killed deer before in December that I thought was a doe, with my bow. It was a buck.  I don’t think it’s rare, I just think it’s a start. Pretty cool to find one so early though!

Strangely enough we have been seeing a number of one horned deer during deer season. Two yrs ago we saw a 4 pt during muzzy season, saw same buck during rifle season with one horn.  A friend of mine shot it.  took some pics, threw it in pickup and when we got back to skin it the other horn had popped off....? WTH? Too much canola or what?

More like not enough canola, they tend to come off whitetail when things get tough

Have not seen it with mule deer so much, certainly not with elk, some one on the wet side needs to help with the BT, no idea.

  Especially for whitetail. Early to mid December is not unusually for shedding. I found a fresh dropped whitetail antler on Christmas Eve day.

Earliest wt Ive found here in 121 was dec 19th with several matures over the years dropping Xmas eve and day, with others dropping early jan.

I shot a blacktail last day of late muzzleloader and the horns popped off of him. Ive been meaning to get them mounted on a skull, only been 15 or 20 years.

Seems to me the order is generally moose drop first, then blacktail/muley, then whitetail, then elk. A few years back I bumped into 4 nice bull moose still packing early February, and have seen them drop as early as November 15, so its definitely variable.
