Hello,

Currently, the use of revolver-type handguns and semiautomatic handguns is allowed in firearm restriction zones during the general firearms season. However, the use of single-shot handguns such as the Thompson Contender or Remington XP-100 is illegal in the same zones. I'm fairly certain that this is an oversight.

Would an amendment to WAC 220-413-180 such that:

(d) Modern firearm tag holders may hunt during established modern firearm seasons with bows and arrows; crossbows; muzzleloaders; revolver-type handguns; semiautomatic handguns of .40 (10 mm) caliber or larger; or shotguns, so long as the equipment and ammunition complies with department rules.

Becomes:

(d) Modern firearm tag holders may hunt during established modern firearm seasons with bows and arrows; crossbows; muzzleloaders; revolver-type handguns; semiautomatic handguns of .40 (10 mm) caliber or larger; single-shot handguns; or shotguns, so long as the equipment and ammunition complies with department rules.

Be of interest? Would there be any complications with this? If not, what would be the best way to reach out to the Department of Fish and Wildlife?

I would say it’s not an oversight, TC’s and XP’s shoot rifle rounds.  308,  30-06 even 300 win mag

I don’t think it’s an oversight at all. What’s the difference between a 7mm-08 round shot out of my Encore rifle barrel and the same round shot out of my 15” pistol barrel?
There’s a reason the Encore type pistols aren’t legal.

Freedom Arms has a revolver that shoots .45-70 gov't.  Desert Eagle has their .50.
I recall the army did a study about ricochets and penetration, finding the worst culprit to be shotguns with slugs.  The smaller, faster rifle and pistol bullets tend to break apart or stay in the dirt.  If they did skip/ricochet, then it was at a fairly wild angle with a drastic loss in velocity (like nearly straight up/perpendicular with little speed relative to the muzzle velocity).  With slugs, they would 'skip' more and retain the energy to keep doing damage.

The intent is to restrict the distance of projectiles because they are typically areas with nearby residents. A 7mm bullet can go five miles versus a mile or less from most of the allowable projectiles.

Yep.  444 Marlin ballistics are pretty close to my Knight Bighorn using the same bullets.

Like others have said, it’s nit an oversight. Those pistols you mentioned use rifle rounds
