Get rid of cables and if it’s freezing out put some Vaseline where the trigger pivots and other moving parts
Get rid of it completely or replace it with something?
I would test it before I cut it off. Grab it with your pliers and pull for all you are worth. If it doesn't pull off I would use it. They have to be attached to something so if you pull that off you need to replace it with something. Some tie wire will work if nothing else.
The early ones were all unreliable but the newer ones are better. Still you need to test it.
I'm going to recommend spray on silicone spray lubricant on the jaw hinge. I think they have to be set in a box. Look at the thread where I talked about making them more deadly.
