Winter is Coming!

Good snow in the forecast.  The animals can sense the barometer dropping as storms approach.  They move more to get more food when they sense they will have to den up for several days and they move again once the storm has passed and the snow becomes trafficable.  I'm predicting those finicky cats will become less finicky really soon. I have a small snow shovel in my truck and I'll put my snowshoes in too.

My bad.  I heard the good snow forecast on the radio and THOUGHT I found a good link that echoed it.  I did get good snow in Cle Elum.  Are people catching more cats this week?

I’m new to the game this year and from the looks of the tracks I had one in the trap but the dang pan was frozen down. What’s your trick to keep it from freezing when temps are rising and falling and melting snow during the day freezes at night. Full length teeter totter style floor pan. I was thinking maybe a small piece of wax paper where the pan rests on the frame might work? Or maybe I need to put them up under thicker trees or cover to keep the snow and rain off of them?

i use vasaline on all hinging and touching parts of trigger and door and also use a black contractor grade garbage bag on top of the cage then brush everything in real good = freeze proof and cat is dry and clean

I would also cover the top and sides of your trap with plastic from a contractor trash bag and make sure the is a few inches of space (no dirt ) under the pan before you brush the trap in. This will help keep the snow out and make the trap a darker, more tempting, cubby.

I spent last night at 4,400 foot elevation. Came out this morning by snowmobile and I did notice that an unusual amount of wildlife activity took place last night. Everything from cats, coyotes, porcupines, etc..
