Scent killer for traps
« on: December 29, 2020, 01:12:38 PM »
Curious if any of the WA. trappers use any scent killer through out the season on their cage traps.

I don't know that it is necessary for bobcat cages everything I have read and watches everyone says human smells don't bother cats at all, just chemical smells. So after I spray paint my cages I let them air out for the season or steam clean them. Don't take that as an answer though since iv yet to catch a cat this year :chuckle: just my  :twocents:

I had one just come out of the powder coating shop with my hands all over it, setting it.

Caught a small female in the first week out. Young and dumb? She was released to grow up.

thanks for these replies, its what others are saying as well.I guess i need to be patient and keep at it'I got a bobcat to go right up to the door(tracks in the snow)just did not commit. So i guess i got it that close with what i'm doing already.

I did read the trapper tip thread,Very helpfull,Iwill def. try the spongue technique.

Well i went and checked traps this morning,I had 1 dog gone it.One of the doors got held up at about the half way point and beaver was able to get out.it was a smaller beaver by the tracks in the snow compared to the other tracks i seen other days.I repositioned the trap so the door would be clear from snow at 6 in.so as long as it doesnt snow to much ill catch it.I also baited it with sponge hung by wire by the trigger dipped in castor.
