Diver Outfitter/Guide
« on: January 04, 2021, 01:16:04 PM »
Anyone know of good guides who target Divers in WA?  I have wanted to go get a couple Cans and Redheads for a while now.  I mostly shoot Mallards and Widgeon and would like to mix it up a bit.

Thanks.

Curt

Very easy DIY hunt. Being in Selah, just head over to the Columbia and drive the shoreline roads. You should spot them no problem. Access you will need to research.

Not sure on guide. Like said above they aren’t hard to hunt just find where they are at.

Diver numbers where I have hunted have taken a big crap. Used to be a fair amount. Not sure why but way less now.

Not sure where your spot is but since the Wanapum draw down that stretch of river has sucked! The draw down killed all of the clam beds where the birds feed. They just aren't there like they used to be.
Fish hard, hunt harder!

Seeing the same thing. Earlier in season they were thick but lately its been pretty slow

I've hunted that area for years and couldn't agree more.  Diver numbers are way down.  Hopefully the ecosystem will repair itself over the next few years.

The birds are in the Wanapum area, en masse. We needed to add about 2 miles to our boat ride last Saturday, in some crazy water, but we found them. Cans, reds, and BBs. It happens to be an area nobody frequents and hidden from view.  Easy limits and finish off in another spot with some wigeon.

And those curious by 'en masse', I mean one solid flock of BBs that stretched for a mile and a quarter upriver from us. Cans were constant groups of 6-10 all morning. Times like this I wish more folks were out shooting. Always seemed best as a social hunt.

Good to hear.   Guess I better branch out from my usual spots and do some exploring!
