Asking for advice with chukar, quail and pheasant.
« on: January 10, 2021, 03:34:24 PM »
Hello all,

Would anyone be willing to share advice for hunting quail, pheasant and chukar on the east side of the state? Looking to head over for the last weekend. I’ve hunted from naches up to ellensburg all the way to Clarkston, either didn’t have much success or everything has been locked up on private land that we have seen. Don’t get to get over hunt these birds much due to work schedule and living in Kelso. The stuff I have found on onx has helped find some areas but not much activity with birds. If anyone has any tips please PM me. Thank you.

Unfortunately your experience is the reality here in Washington State. Chukar numbers pretty good on large swaths of public land just takes a lot of time to find them.

The breaks of the Columbia, Yakima and Snake will hold chukar and much of it is public land. Look for rock structures. Generally these are pretty physically demanding hunts with lots of miles, lots of elevation and absolute garbage footing. Not uncommon to find huns in or around chukar country as well. First thing in the morning you can hear the birds talk sometimes which can help you get on them.
