Just out of curiosity how thick was the ice?

When I was there it was 12-14''. Heard its 16-20'' now.

Went out yesterday. We had a blast, I could do that all day everyday. The ice was a good 2 feet and cold, cold, cold. It's weird that a person can fish a hole 8 feet away from someone and get very different results. Worms did better than the maggots for us. Got a few perch fatties and one 4 pound steelhead, that was interesting on a tiny ice pole.

One of my trophies today. It was blizzard conditions out there. The wind was fierce. I'm certain my cousin and I were the only dummies out there, we loved it. It reminded us we were still alive. Good day.

So what are your daily averages? I have heard of people putting buckets of perch on the ice but that was not my experience there nor was it any of the other folks I talked to. It was less about the quantity of fish and more about the quality of BIG fish. How often are you moving?

I'm just a guest ice fisherman visiting my family so I'm far from an expert of the in's and outs of ice fishing on cascade. The first day we went out one set of holes were super slow but another set of holes only 10-12 feet away that my aunt and uncle were fishing was hot the whole time we were out there. So we move from the slow holes about 14 feet further out and we were catching perch constantly plus one really nice steelhead. I was told that it was not uncommon to get multiple jumbo perch out there. We got 6 jumbo perch yesterday between 2 of us in about 6 hours time. We moved twice yesterday as well, that time it didn't help with the quantity issue but thats when we started getting the bigger ones. We might have moved again but it was so gnarly outside we just did what we could with the second set up. I was told there's lots of guys that get real technical with fish finders and tackle movement. That's probably how some guys get the big ones constantly. I like the old fashioned hope and pray fishing myself.
