Help with a resizing die.

Alright everyone I'm working on loading up some ammo for a pre64 win model 70 in 338 win mag.

I have rcbs FL dies, .336 expander mandrel, and a belted magnum collet die to remove the bulge if any from above the belt on the case.

I load up about 15 rds that are middle of the pack when it comes to charge weights and fire them to get the chamber dimensions off the case with a comparator to reference how much I should bump the shoulder back in order to essentially headspace off the shoulder. Now the issue is my rcbs resizer die doesn't even touch the shoulder of the 1x fired cases.

Should I slap in I'ma grinder to shorten it so that it does?

I'd still be able to size the case body with the collet die.

Any suggestions or insight is appreciated.

Ive got the same gun in the same caliber.  Also use RCBS dies, but mine is a safe queen and Ive never noticed any issues with resizing the brass.

It's not necessarily an issue with getting them to saami. It's an issue with bump sizing.

Are you sizing in reference to your fired case or just back to Saami?

Are you screwing the die down far enough?  It should "cam over" on the down stroke.  You should feel it.

Like said screw the die down, But If the brass chambers freely you don't need to worry about the shoulders.  Any resistance ?

It does screw all the way down and cams over but it doesn't change the shoulder dimensions of fired cases

The less you bump the longer it lasts.  With a light load and virgin brass it might not grow enough to even need or allow it to be bumped.   But usually dies allow brass to be bumped way more than you want.  Maybe you have a really short chamber ?

If it goes back in the gun after sizing, I'd leave as is. When the brass gets tight in the gun and it still don't bump the shoulder, I'd grind some off the bottom of the die.
