I don't know how you all can pack such weight. I usually hunt alone and have multiple issues with my spine and physically cannot support that much weight on my back. I drug a buck for 2 miles down an old logging road once never to do that again. I carried 75ish lbs a few years ago over a couple miles and would not have been able to do it with out walking sticks to keep me vertical. I now carry 2, 12"X3/4" plywood wheels, a 21"X5/8" length of fiberglass rod with holes drilled into it to fit cotter pins (keeps wheels in place) and rope. I now have wheels, an axle and rope to lash poles so I can make a cart and roll my harvest out behind me. Only adds a minimal amount of weight to my pack. Being only 21" wide it fits on trails nicely.
God Bless,
Scott

Little Pathfinder said all he cared about on our Idaho hunt last week was that he could pack an animal out on his back.  Last full day he shot this forky muley 3 1/2 miles in (downhill) from the trail head.  Took him 2 trips, but he packed the entire buck out.  Put a total of 21 miles on his boots that day.
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

All that meat had to come out uphill.  "Take a picture dad.  It might be the last time I am smiling today..."  :chuckle:

What a trooper,I envy you a bit.
That's awesome!!!!
My kids don't have that much  enthusiasm about the pack out. But I think if the kid does notch his tag this year.
He is gonna work a little harder this year .

My 11yo daughters first real backpack hunt. 6.5 miles out to the truck. Proud dad moments.

best hunt of my life. Kids add such a challenge but such a priceless reward to hunting. To see her not just survive but thrive on a physically demanding hunt like that was something else. Her continual progression as a hunter leaves me mostly speechless. Only downfall is far less hunting for her dad takes place  :chuckle:

you nailed it! And that brings up one (just one 😁) of my downfalls, I was just too selfish about MY hunting when I was younger.  Didn’t involve my daughter or wife nearly enough, and now I’m full speed ahead w teaching/showing my new son in law the trial and tribulations of hunting, really want him to fall in love w the backcountry! Awesome job Karl and good on you for not being selfish like I was.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

I struggle with that myself. I really struggle with throttling back my expectations.  We hit MT for the 2 day youth opener on our way home from ID. Night before season I found a cranker buck. Well clouds blew out, temp skyrocketed and the giant full moon popped out. I dragged her all over looking for that buck and made her pass a lot of bucks in the process. She finally said, "dad i think I'm all out of passes. I just want to shoot another buck." Had to check myself and remember she is only 11. She doesn't care if its a 180" buck or a doe at this point so next buck we found she happily dropped the hammer.
