A bill to bring about landowner sponsored elk tags and some changes to cow elk b tags has been introduced by Rep Galt. I find it high time landowners have some skin in the game. Having numerous friends and family with farm and ranches here in Montana, I know how difficult it can be. Far to many folks think that all ranchers and farmers are raking in the big bucks, no pun intended. That is far from the truth. Add to the usual dependency on weather, commodities, trade agreements, throw in the China virus that has caused processing plants to slow or even shut down at times this past year. Why shouldn't a rancher or farmer have the ability to get some sponsored elk tags, much like the landowner sponsored deer tags available? To me it has become quite concerning all the negativity I see on hunting forums regarding landowners. It seems so many think that every inch of ground should be open to the public. If it were not for agricultural folks, the current game populations that exist today, would not exist. Elk cause many a problem on agricultural lands, destroying fence, crops, stack yards, ect. It is about time ranchers and farmers have some skin in this game.
