Pics missing
« on: April 21, 2009, 12:17:23 PM »
So I have had the cameras out soaking for almost two months.  I hiked in yesterday with sign everywhere so was excited to see what I had.... No pics on the first camera, was a little suprised but ok, so I hit the next one and know for sure there are going to be pics on it with fresh tracks right in front of the camera....no pics...
I look at the folder details where the pics are stored and see that it has been modified as of April 03....?  So now I am thinking that somebody has been going to my cameras and taking the pics off of them.  Whats with that, I could care less if you look at them but just don't delete them, sheesh   >:(

Thats what I was thinking, they didn't want their pics on there so they just deleted all.  I moved one and pulled the other out.

I don't know squat about trail cams, but I do know there are programs to recover deleted pics off of memory cards.  I accidently deleted some pics from the card in my camera, was able to recover them using a RescuePro program.  You might be able to recover some of yours.

all these stolen cameras and stolen pics makes me wonder if it's really worth it.

Yeah I haven't had any problems or any humans on my cameras prior to this.  The reason its really fishy is because I have year round pics of the animals in this area and to go 2 months with none got me to look closer.  I think I might have to use my climbing tree stand to put them up high and aim down, atleast that way they would have to have their climbing gear on to recover anything.   :chuckle:
Its all a risk leaving items in the woods but for some great pics I will stick with the risk.

 :yeah:

I got a trail cam for X-Mas and I am almost afraid to put it out.  I don't want someone taking my camera.  Need to find a lock box for it.  To many dishonest people running around the woods.

i have 1 and put it on a tree at about 5500' 2 miles from the truck for a week. i felt ok with it there...not sure where everyone leaves their's that get stolen, but it sure seems to be happening a lot.
i have not had it out since. the places i would like to try to put it next are more readily accessed by people.
sorry.

How is your trail cam mounted to the tree if they can open it to gain access the the camera but not remove it from the tree? I'd count my blessing that only pics were removed and not the camera.
God Bless,
Scott

That's why I stick with the cheap(er) cameras.  I've gotten pictures of people at times and I never put cameras back in those spots.  Luckily we've got pretty good people around here and they haven't messed with them.

I haven't used this software but found it using a google search "recover deleted photos"... Might want to give it (or something similar) a try if you still have the card:
