Reloading 41 Rem mag. Need advice
« on: February 11, 2021, 02:07:41 PM »
I  am reloading for a 41 mag pistol and have a couple questions. I am going to use Reloader 2400 with 18.5 grs. and a 210 gr Sierra JHC Some manuals say use a magnum primer others say a standard primer. What do you guys use? I am also using brand new Winchester brass right out or the bag. My question is do I need to put in thru all 3 dies or is it ready to load right out of the bag ? Any help would be great. Thanks Larry

#1 first reference multiple reloading sources free on the internet to see what your window is.

#2 see what the book recommendations are for primers given the particular powder you use and what range is given.

#3 winchester brass is not as consistent as others so I'd just run them through to make sure you at least start off with some sort of consistency. (it also gives you a chance to thoroughly inspect them) winchester is notorious for having a few bad cases per 100.

#4 you definitely need to expand the case mouths to accept the bullet.

#5 I'd definitely run a ladder of some sort with different charge weights to see a few things like...

Speed
Accuracy
Impulse of recoil
Pressure signs

Then tailor it to whatever you're looking for.

Hope this helps

Resize  the brass, this will correct any dings in the case mouth and square things up. New brass takes a beating in those bags. With the current state of primers in the nation, run what you got, any large pistol primer.  :twocents:

As has been stated, run the brass through. Then, if this is the only 41 you will run them through, you shouldn’t have to full length them any more, just bell and crimp as they will be fire formed to that gun. As long as all your chambers are the same, that is.  Saves on beating up the brass.
I have a few (maybe 10?) 41 brass I can give you if you get down this way and want them.
Cuterebra are NOT cute!

You should be able to use regular large pistol primers with 2400 powder.   If you moved to say H110 then I would recommend using large pistol magnum primers.

If all you have is large pistol magnum primers they will work fine.
