TIKKA MOUNTS
« on: February 25, 2021, 06:46:36 PM »
Hello Gang!
I am the proud new owner of a Tikka T3x Superlight in 7mm mag which I intend to use of elk and deer primarily in the canyons and heavy timber.
It is my intention to mount a Leopold 3.5-15x44 VX5  scope (30 mm tube) which should work fine in the timber and allow me the rare 600 yard shot if necessary.
My question is this; what mounts/rings should I go with?
Having owned Sako Finnbears since I was a kid, I have always used Sako mounts/rings which fit the dovetail on the receiver, these have been flawless.
The Tikka has a similar setup, but is also tapped on top of the receiver for screw in bases.
It appears as if there are a number of "Off brand" mounts/rings which I am sure are pretty good, but I don't want to screw around and have buyers remorse, (See "Buy once, Cry once").
I will be sending this off to my gunsmith buddy for a muzzle brake, stock paint job and ceracote next week and want to have the mounts figured out before it goes in the mail.
I have a tendency to go with the mounts which fit the grooves on the receiver, but, ?

As a side note, I have a Sako Finnbear in 33 Nosler which is my Go To, but it is a bit heavy for the steep canyons and timber as I am looking for a rifle which handles a bit faster, plus it's a little more than I need for deer.

Thanks in advance for your input.
Rob.

Talley lightweights have always been my go to for Tikkas... there are definitely fancier options out there now but mine have all been excellent including a superlight in 7 rem

I have DNZ Game Reapers on two Tikkas. I have zero complaints.

Tally light weight, extra low for the scope you’re putting on it

I have used the tikka stock rings with no problems but heard complaints on em. Just took my leupold scope off and have some leupold mounts and rings that are made for it I was going to try but they look higher. I just eyeballed em so not sure how much taller that are.
I have Man Chit to do

I put the Warne Maxima on my Tikka 7mm mag, with that exact scope, completely satisfied!

I second the tikka stock rings. I was in high school when i got my rifle and didnt know anything different. Long story short, ive had the rifle for a good 13 years and it still has the stock rings. Ive replaced the scope on it but havent touched the rings. Not saying they're the best by any means but they work. Hope you enjoy your tikka.

Have 2 rifles. One is a backup and the other is the beater workhorse that’s “seen some stuff” for 5-6 years. Both Tikka, both Talley and leupolds....no adjustments needed in that time.

I put a Mountain Tactical Rail on my T3X 300wm Superlight. I topped that with MTD Elite scope rings. These Tikkas kick like mules and you want something that will hold the scope without any worries. Make sure you pick a scope base that has the dowels in the bottom.
