AZ Javelina success
« on: March 01, 2021, 03:10:31 PM »
25 yrs ago Boneaddict and I set out to kill javelina in AZ and were successful with only hunting 1.5 days.  Fast forward 25 yrs and my then 6 month old son is 25 and he wanted to do a 25yr anniversary tour with me.  Do to life events Boneaddict graciously bowed out so my son and I were on our own.  We arrived in AZ the day before season and through some stroke of luck found the spot where Doug and I camped previously.  Some had changed as I suppose it does over 25 yrs.  We set up camp and got ready to hunt.  The first 4 days found no pigs day 1, 8 pigs day 2 but couldnt make it happen, 4 pigs at dark on day 3 but too far to make it happen and no pigs day 4.  My son sprained his ankle along the way and we had lots of sun burn and thorns in many places to show for our efforts. (temps low 30s in the morning, low-mid 70s in afternoon) Day 5 arrived and it wasnt long after first light that my son spotted pigs at just over 300 yds from our perch.  We were able to make it happen this time and enjoyed the long ride home as successful survivors of the 25 yr Anniversary pig tour.

Well done gents!  Javelina are fun to hunt but tough too!

Awesome!   I’m sorry I missed out on the adventure, but glad you guys had a good trip.  Seems like just yesterday I was digging thorns out of my ass.  Lol!

Looked like a great adventure - thanks for sharing.  I bet the pokey stuff down there makes things challenging at times. Curious on your strategy - mostly glassing / spot & stalk or did you guys do a lot of hiking w mostly close encounters?  The "perch" made me think of the former, but the night encounters seemed otherwise.

Love it. We were down there too to soak up the sunshine and chase the little stinky buggers. Sure was a nice break.

On my hit list thanks for sharing.

Is it my imagination or are those massive javelina?

Great work!
