Any thoughts on why this is happening? Bought this rifle used a couple years ago. These markings are raised...not impressions. Rifle is a Remington model Seven

Your bolt face has that impression in it. Brass starts to flow under pressure.

Yikes....that is one rough bolt face. Worst I have ever seen. Not sure if it’s a problem but dang......looks like someone used a file on it.

I looks like someone smashed the bolt face with a flat head screwdriver.
I dont think id be too worried about it as long as it doesnt start to rupture the primers.

I don't know that this is what caused that, but blown primers will flame cut a bolt face in all kinds of crazy ways.
