We (the family) have just finished a 14 week elimination diet. The purpose of the diet was not for weight loss but to see we had adverse effects from certain food groups. For 10 weeks we eliminated refined sugar, wheat, dairy, peanuts, corn, and alcohol. The basis of the diet was eating in proportion, third protein, third fruit, third vegetables, and eating as much as you want as long as you maintain proportion. Then at the end bringing back one of the eliminated food groups one at a time to see if you have a reaction. Benefits from the diet: Weight loss (significant, which was not a goal), lowered blood pressure (prehypertension to normal), and an allergic reaction to dairy, which enflames my joints exacerbating my arthritis. The toughest part of any diet is making a lifestyle change and maintaining them after the diet. |
