My favorite doctor on YouTube, Dr. Berry, calls keto "the proper human diet." And I have to agree with him. Everybody should be doing the keto diet. Sure would cut down on the need for doctors! The majority of health issues today are caused by or made worse due to high glucose levels in the blood. Diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, Alzheimer's, dementia, cancer, arthritis, kidney failure, etc. A ketogenic diet is the key to reducing blood glucose levels.
I go back to one of my earlier posts in that a blanket statement that everybody should be on the keto diet is false. I am not on it and actually eat a bunch of carbs daily. I don't have a high glucose level in my blood and am very healthy unless my blood work is lying. Reducing blood glucose levels can and is done in various fashions, keto included. There are different ways to skin a cat and its up to the person to decide what works best for them.  :twocents:

Well, maybe your carbohydrate intake is mostly from real foods such as vegetables and not from highly processed foods. Carbs aren't so bad if they're the right ones.

Precisely and that has been my main thing in all this. Its all about knowing what you are putting into your bodies and how it effects your health. I will hand it to people on keto, I couldn't do it. I hammer through potatoes, rice, whole grains and all that but I also do it intelligently. I plan out my meals, pre cook them for the week and make sure the sources I get my nutrients from are the quality I need.

America is a lazy society and doesn't give a dang about their health. They would much rather take a pill then make the effort to actual address the root cause of their issues. Covid wouldn't have been half as deadly in the US if people even gave half as much of a rip about their health as all the people posting on this thread.

The thing that I never knew until recently is that those carbs you're eating, the rice, potatoes, and grains, immediately turns to sugar as soon as you eat them. This is why it's so important for someone with insulin resistance or full blown diabetes to quit eating those things. You're young enough and exercise enough that it's not an issue for you.

yes, whole mheat kernels should have stayed bird and critter food, not human food. we take something so pure and healthy like, fish, and coat it in pure carbs then we deep fry it in animal fat, add a preservatives and eat it. why oh why! yes good but soooo bad for our bodies  :bash:

Do you guys put together your own recipe and meal plans or buy one? I am interested in something like this. I am a bread and candy junky and I'm getting old enough to feel it. I went through a site, but it wanted a monthly subscription fee when I got to the end

"A 2012 study found that people experience an increased risk of gout when they first enter into ketosis due to an increase in uric acid levels. However, the risk is short-term and improves once your body adapts to being in ketosis.

Can it help prevent gout?
No. The available research suggests that the keto diet may help target the source of the inflammation to prevent acute symptoms of gout. But it hasn’t been shown to prevent the condition."

I keep it simple. Lots of ground meat, steaks, canned sardines and canned salmon, chicken legs/thighs, bacon and eggs, cheddar cheese, avacados, mushrooms, beef liver, onions, pork chops. Oh, and lots of butter and cream.

That's about it, other than a few more vegetables for my salads. But I'm getting away from the salads now and going to more of a mostly carnivore diet.

It doesn't need to be complicated or expensive. It's especially nice if you have a freezer full of deer and/or elk meat.

Cholesterol is not a bad thing. That's another one of the lies our doctors tell us.

As I'm reading this debate I'm sitting right next to a box of deli muffins co-workers brought in, costco style big muffins.

and I don't even want one of the nasty things..

THAT would not have happened before keto, I'd be on my 2nd or 3rd by now.

I'm on a fairly strict carnivore diet, and I'm very pleased with it. The 2-4 months out of the year I don't work, I'm horrible about putting on weight. At 40, it doesn't get any easier to motivate myself to start working out before the season starts.  Besides rapid weight loss, there have been many side benifits.

When I get back to camp,  it's mainly meat, greens and grain. Lots of wild rice and ice cream!

Your body processes Cholesterol along with fats. It breaks it down in your bloodstream. Most commonly, LDLs are elevated but the important measurement there is a particle size of =<1. Particle size of =>2 is where you get in trouble. This is called the LDL particle measurement and should be ordered with standard blood tests. Some plans won't cover it because it's an expensive test.

Spend more time in the sun and most of your cholesterol problems will be solved as it turns it into Vitamin D.

My co-worker just nuked a lean cuisine meal.

So glad I'm not trying to loose weight like that.

That's like a starvation diet. One of those diets where you lose a lot of weight at first, but then gain it back plus some.
