That is the best example of tick removal I have ever seen. Couple of points. There ARE tests for Lymes disease (check out CDC web site), DO NOT put hot matches or cigarettes on the tick, the burn to the soft tissue surrounding the tick is more problematic than the bite itself. No need to put anything on the tick. They do not DRILL or Bore into the skin. Their heads DO NOT break off the mouth parts do, When removing a tick try not to crush it or break it, they can excrete contents in to the wound.

Home remedies, wives tales, misunderstands, misinterpretations can and do cause as many or more problems than the original problem.

Terry

Might be fun to start a thread about wives tales, and urban legions for treatment and management of common situations that have been proven wrong along with the correct way to manage it. Just because you mom, granddad, or whomever told you it was a good idea doesn't mean it is.

I guess I'm not sure I want to say I doubt what you're saying but I grew up back east where deer ticks are a real thing and concern and I've done the match thing several times with no ill effect to myself or others... I don't burn myself...just touch the tick. :dunno:

I saw a video where a lady must have had a bunch of them on her, they were dripping hot candle wax on them.

Unfortunately most regular GP's don't know enough about Lyme disease to accurately diagnose or treat it. If you think you might have it, you should do the research and see a specialist who is up to date on the latest testing.

Been there, done that. If you know of someone from personal experience please post it.

Have a family member who's been battling with it for over 30 years, it's taken quite the toll on her. I don't know which doctors she's seeing at this point but I could definitely do some asking. Can't remember which podcast it was a while back but it was a lyme specialist explaining the various testing methods and why most GP's just aren't equipped to properly diagnose it. Made a lot of sense and sounds like a lot of people who have it are probably told they don't by their dr. I'm not claiming to be an expert by any means, just urging people not to take their ol' family doc's diagnosis as the final word.

My sister-in-law was misdiagnosed for about 10 years by lots of different doctors. After all sorts of tests and bloodwork, she pretty much self-diagnosed it with the same information the doctors had.

Jackelope,
I'm very sure that is true for you. However people have very different skill levels and common sense isn't always common. Matches, hot needles, cigarette, cigars, all can and have left there marks where well meaning, good intended people have made a simple situation much worse.
I have treated and seen some nasty examples. Same with putting who knows what chemicals on the little buggers.

I once was involved in a situation where a woman had head lice and the plan was to wash her head and hair with Coleman fuel. Important safety tip "don't smoke during this procedure". (Not a urban legion I can still pull the report)

Somewhat like drinking while reloading. What could go wrong!

If people had common sense and used it I wouldn't have had such a long and colorful career.

And putting an electric heater UNDER the reloading bench where they are sitting. That fire happens every year. Like Big Joe says, “Come on, man!”

Woke up and felt something stuck to my collar bone area and yanked it out by hand...Here is what was left. Sore for days. Had kind off a bullseye around it. Sent pics to Doc..she said don't worry about it. It will go away.

Tick bites with a bulleye are a sign of possible Lyme disease. Better get tested.

Years ago after several tick bites I came down with all of the symptoms of Lyme disease. I was negative for testing. A few years later since I was still suffering and my doc said the tests had improved so he tested me again. I still tested negative. Some more years passed and I read an article about using the tincture of teasel and it cleared up my symptoms. Teasel is the spikey weed growing in most of our wetlands. My sister, who actually tested positive for Lyme, gave it a try and her symptoms disappeared after suffering for years. Not medical advice but it works for some. Your doc will never recommend it cause it is not a Big Pharma $1000 treatment nor is it approved by the FDA. Do a search and you can find the info and the product.

Do you think that is a bad thing since our medical system is compromised by Big Pharma and captive regulators like the FDA and the CDC and our medical schools teach healing can only be done by drugs (mostly high-priced) and surgery? I have had several doctors that had I taken their "medical advice" i would have died many years ago. Not saying all docs are incompetent as several have also saved my life but it pays to educate yourself especially against such a profit motivated industry with little reqard for your health. Dr Fauci comes to mind. The teasel worked for me when more than a few docs could not.

Its best to research as much as you can for your own healthcare needs. Who cares more about your health than you?

Had an employee who became seriously ill. Wenatchee told him he had cancer and wanted to start chemo immediately. Went to the west side to get second opinion......yup Lyme disease

A second medical opinion on most anything is a good idea.

The perfect tick extracting tool is a pair of tweezers. Grab by the head and pull slow.. has never failed me.

The Manly way to get a tick off is to put a berm of Vaseline on your skin around the tick . Gunpowder will stick to the Vaseline. Use a very liberal amount of gunpowder...enough to make it look like a black circle around the tick. Touch the gunpowder with a lit match....WALLA...the tick comes off with the scab a few days later

If you used that method that is probably why you have a bullseye around the bite. A classic tell sign for Lyme disease. Ticks take time to poison you with Lyme and the longer that scab remains the better chance they have to spread the disease even if dead. We used to use Wite-Out on the tick which dries quickly and the solvent irritates the tick for quick removal. Rubbing alcohol works good especially with some citrus oil mixed with it.
