Spring bear in the northeast techniques and times

Had my first bear on camera for the year 4/6.  It was a big boar which is pretty typical as they always come out first.  The last three years of running cameras in this particular area has bears waking up this time of year....but usually only the big boars and usually very nocturnal.  The masses will be waking up in the next couple weeks.

Seen 3 separate bears in yesterday between 700 and 1000 ft,so that's a good elevation to start.

I spent the weekend at my property by the border. There’s still 2 feet of snow where the sun doesn’t hit so I couldn’t get my four wheeler to my camera spots. I don’t think the bears have come out yet in my area but I’ve already seen more elk up there in the last month than I saw all of last year.

I didn't even know there were elevations that low in the northeast!

if you are limited on time or traveling long distances Id suggest not even wasting your time till May 10th and later. If you live close or can go whenever then it doesnt hurt to look. I have seen bears in April in NE units, but they lethargic and sightings are low compared to May and June.

I'm curious what techniques were used in the past to get spring bear,  spot and stalk probably most used... How about calling?

Grizzly bear have a hump and black bears do not. Except sometimes back bear do... when it comes to mature bears it’s pretty obvious but a young grizz and black sure are tough to me.

Ya ,
I'm not getting close enough to a grizz to check the claws,
At that point really past the point of too close.
But still pretty informative video though.
