New to trapping
« on: March 16, 2021, 06:27:46 AM »
Hey all I'm new to trapping, yes late start,  and have made a few purchases of gear cage traps, for bobbies and some lures, took test and have license, however have a question about ( for lack, of better terminology) trapper etiquette, I know several spots I have seen numerous cat tracks and was going to place a trap however upon get to the area I caught the odor of, what I thought was, possible lures. So wondering if I was correct in not placing a trap so as to avoid "infringing on" another trappers area?
Would also like to meet other trappers in this area. Combat fishing is bad enough don't need or want combat trapping
Thank you in Advance for any responses

Very possible that's what you smelled. Did you see any physical sign of people in the area? You still have snow up that way?

Still have plenty of snow, only evidence of other people was a truck parked where I did day before.

I think you are on the right track trying to not infringe on others trapping areas. That being said if you don't see a trap or talk to a trapper how do you know there is someone there. I would probably set unless I had better evidence. Seems like you would see tracks going to traps if there is snow.
It s a good idea to hook up with other trappers in the area if possible just to keep things friendly.
