Typically I don't do raffles or loto tickets, but I do have dreams of hunting in Alaska. So what the heck, but ya you are probably right.

Depends on how well the stories are told/marketed by ADFG after the season, but I predict this first year is going to be the best year by far for odds.  ADFG is looking at this as a money maker and will promote the heck out of it when they get some good stories to tell.

So this would cover a license and tag or just the tag?

I think it's just the permit. Believe you'd still need an non-res hunting license.  And it looks like you'd have to hire a guide if you got the permits that normally require it (grizzly and sheep, I think).

Typically when applying in Alaska you have to buy a hunting license before you can apply for special draw then buy your six chances for the draw you want.

Yeah the Ts&Cs are at the bottom of the website raffle page.   The raffle is just for the permit for the species chosen for the raffle ticket.   Still have to buy the license, use a guide if non-resident, etc.

Too rich for my blood. Plus it could be pretty hard to book a guide that short notice. Many or most are booked out 1 or 2 years. Maybe the controlled hunt guides are more flexible?

Similar thoughts.  At first I thought it seemed pretty cool, but then I realized if I draw I'm probably going to be throwing 10-15k at this thing by time I'm done.

Just made a quick call to my local ADFG office.  You don't need to have a license to buy raffle tags, but if you do draw, you'll need to buy the license and locking tag.

The only hunts a non-res needs a guide for is brown bear, mountain goat and dall sheep.  Caribou, musk ox, bison and moose can go self-guided.

I think they missed an opportunity here, in that they should have awarded the locking tag for free with the winning raffle. You should still have to buy a license, and (maybe?) hire a guide if required, but your win should get you the tag for free.

They'd make way more money if they did that, imho.

Aren't you the one that tells us if you want to hunt somewhere, just make it happen?  No more drive through coffees, bring your lunch to work, sell your first born on the black market... sacrifices

I think most of it will depend on what we can get for the firstborn on the black market.

up until this year i could have probably been able to hunt a stone sheep but she is getting a bit sassy. Id be lucky to get a good quality moose hunt out of her now

This is the huge caveat for most, if drawn now you have to cough up a lot of $$$ suddenly to get it done. If they would make this for the 2022 season it would be way better. That Moose tag would be awesome, but to have to come from out of state the logistics would be tough to plan out with only a few months, these hunts usually take a year or more of planning.
