Go-To Pack

I'll echo all of the other votes here for a Badlands pack. I've got two, because I liked the first one so much.  My day pack that got me hooked on Badlands producs is a Hypervent.  This pack is hands down the most comfortable, nimble, can't tell its there pack I've ever owned.  It beats the non-hunting packs from REI I've owned, Gregory, Arc'teryx, etc.  The thing is simply bulletproof; I can't say enough about it.

So recently I bought the Badlands 4500, I got it in the mail last night, and I'm really impressed so far. Can't wait to get out and use it.

I'm cheap and bought a camelbak Ranger.  No complaints with it at all.  I spent the extra money on a good pack frame.

Rocky Mountain Yukon.  Both of my partners use one as well.  If you want a "fanny" style pack with shoulder straps it makes for a good pack.  Made and designed in southern Idaho.  Bought mine at the owner's shop in Pocatello/Chubbuck; he's a serious hunter and knows his gear.  The Yukon holds a ton of gear--about 1900 cu. in.  We added their stuff sack and organizer pockets for more out-board room.

The advantage of a lower riding pack is that when you bend over to duck brush, the pack doesn't just ride up to where your head was and snag the brush.  That was the main reason we migrated to that style pack.  We were hunting brushy wet-side and got tired of snagging the back-pack.

If you want a great day pack get the eberlestock x1 or the j104. Once you have hauled in a rifle scabbard you will not go back. Best thing I have ever had. The " just one" is huge and is better suited for a bivy camp or something but if you plan on hiking mile after mile and dont want to make multiple trips packing an animal the dragonfly may be the way to go. Either way i am sure you will end up with a great pack.

I got a great deal on a Badlands 2800.  It's a little bigger than I intended, but I COULD NOT pass up the price ($100 shipped to my door  ).

I'm going to give it a try this summer and see how I like it.

I also picked up a OGIO Day Pack on CamoFire for $30.00 so that I have an option for a smaller pack.

I'll let you guys know how they work out.

Blacks Creek makes good packs as well, I ended up with a canadian over the Badlands last summer when I was pack shopping.

regaurdless of size Badlands all the way. I bought the wrong size from Cabelas and a year later Badlands let me trade it in for a medium, no questions or cost except shipping

Badlands 2800 here.  Can't go wrong with Badlands, Eberlestock or Blacks Creek.  All very nice packs.  The warranty on the Badlands was a real plus.
