Spring bear points
« on: March 20, 2021, 04:54:12 PM »
Does WDFW have a system for buying preference points after the draw, like some other states do? I realize I can call and ask, but it's the weekend, and I'm impatient.

Nope. If you put in this year and were unsuccessful you have one. Only way to get additional points is unsuccessful applications. Not possible to get more than one point a year

Or you could have chosen to just buy a point. But you missed that boat.

That's what I figured, I just know of at least 2 other states that will take your money well after the draw if you miss it (still just 1 point per year).

I didn't buy a point because I got confused by the system, where I thought I'd have to declare my elk weapon of choice just to get my tags, so that I could apply, etc. I assume you at least have to buy a package with a bear tag to apply for spring bear special tag, correct?

At the least, you would need to purchase a bear license to apply for a spring bear permit or apply for a point.  The tag is good for fall season.
Economy failure = Too many people spending money they don't have on things they don't need to impress people they don't like.

For future reference, you don't have to select your elk tag immediately when you buy a package that includes one. You can do that later when you decide on a weapon and region.
