I bought some skunk boards from Grawes lures this year. They were supposed to be 48 inches long but are only like 36 inches. They are too short for most skunks. A medium coon board works well for most skunks.

A coon board would work, but wider than it should be.
My skunk boards are made useing FHA pattern. Bearpaw has posted NAFA patterns at top of this forum deal. I don't see the skunk pattern. But use the small fox pattern as will be the same. Make them long, as I use my skunk boards for med cats. Remember to use a belly wedge. On cats, otter, I put belly wedge down through mouth. Skunk, coon belly wedge up from bottom.
Down load FHA fur handleing manual as much good info in it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I normally stick to water trapping as time requires me to but had a chance to throw a set this weekend at a friends house. Got my first skunk.

That being said, how you get the smell out? You guys washing the skunks before fleshing and boarding? It’s not the worst smell, but it’s a bit ripe. There are so many skunks in the valley, it would be nice to get this dialed in for future endeavors

I have never trapped a striped skunk but I have put up a few. I used my otter boards which I also use for cats and coyote. Seemed about right, possibly too wide for a small skunk. Coon boards are too wide in my opinion.
Spotted skunk go on mink boards.

did a bit more digging(with guidance from some on here) and looks like fox boards are the preferred sized board for doing striped skunks. thanks for all the replies guys!

The Grawes skunk boards are the best. As far as the smell if you make a solution of 1 quart peroxide 1/4 cup soda teaspoon of dawn dish soap soak and wash around a bit and rinse with cold water life will be better. Dry the fur and it's ready for skinning. Save the skull and the essence

Well the Fat Lady can sing now. We just got the word from the guy that sold the top 25 skunks at the Intermountain sale last weekend. Perfectly put up. Paid off as blnelson got the highest price Ive seen at auction.

Maybe somebody smarter than me could post the sale results. Very nice printout.

I’ll have to look them up again and grab a few. Thanks!

And let’s see the list!
