Approximately how many inches underwater are they when you shoot them?

Yep what KFhunter said.  In the video they were spawning in the flooded trees so they were right under the surface of the water or surfacing to suck air.  Sometimes they go so shallow their back are out of the water.  I have not tried any deep shots but Tim Wells shoots them a little deeper.  I am getting easy passthrough at the surface so I could probably still shoot a 12-18 inches under.

WoW. I have underestimated the power of a dart!

I havent tried it so you could be right but these are longer fishhawk darts and I am shooting pretty close.  I cant shoot 10 yards out and 2 feet down.  More like a couple yards and a steeper angle.  The dart itself is like 10 inches so you really dont lose much until the cone hits.

You must have mastered the art of sliding feet

I dont know what that is.  I fish from a kayak and float right up to them.  During spawn its easier to get close.  Open water I have to let them come to me.

Oh good, I was a wader.

You had to slide your feet through the muck, if you picked them off up off the bottom and set them back down, even slowly, it changed the water pressure and they'd bolt.

Kinda like banging the side of your kayak with a paddle on your approach.

What lake do you shoot them in?  East or Westside?  I may give this a try, just for something else to try. Not sure how the dart would stay in. Seem like you would have to play them out for a while.

I use darts that are barbed but you cant just horse them in either.  Sneaking up on them and playing them for a bit is part of the fun.

I have not yet! Might be in the cards in the future I love my cold steel big bore blow gun.

Man they are fun, aren't they? So powerful I have a hard time pulling darts out of my shed.

I set up a target in the basement and the whole family likes taking turns.  I would love more hunting opportunity with it but right now I am just using it on carp.  I think I could hunt starling and squirrels but if they carried a dart off into the neighbors yards on a bad hit it would be awkward conversation.   :chuckle:

Use your fishing dart!

That would be pretty exciting fighting a squirrel on the end of a fishing line.    :chuckle:  Might have to give it a try.  Thats how they are hunting those iguanas in FL

Cold Steel big boar.  Just the basic model not the Tim Wells version.  I go over the whole setup in the video.
