Oregon archery Heppner unit help
« on: March 18, 2021, 08:41:05 PM »
Hi folks, been hunting Idaho but tags sold out quick this year so heading to Oregon for the first time. Done some homework and going to hunt the Heppner unit. Was hoping anyone could point us in a starting direction? Anything to look out for or look for? Pretty decent caller, willing to work hard.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Never hunted it, but I know that it's a popular place.  Get off the roads and main trails to get away from the pressure.

Could be a popular choice this fall due to Idahos changes and this is most likely the last year its an OTC unit

Yeah Heppner is the poster-child that ODFW is using as the excuse to make some of those eastern soon-to-be-former-OTC units a controlled hunt archery season in 2022.  More people archery on the Heppner OTC tag than most other OTC archery units.    Heppner will likely require a point(s) for the controlled draw archery, once the decision is made.

So yeah expect some extra company in Heppner this year, in what is already a crowded unit.  Be strategic about what dates you choose to go in.

Thanks all, I did see that it looks to be going to draw in eastern Oregon next year. There is a wildlife representative on Youtube that was explaining why they were going to do that.
