What's it take to get the permit?  Does a torn rotator cuff documented with an MRI suffice?  Not for me but a few others I know.

Only after it could not be surgically repaired.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

Or if it is surgically repaired, but still has significant enough permanent damage.

You have to wait 12 month after surgery (or determination that surgery will not repair) before you can even apply.

I'm going in for my appointment on June 14th  with my doc to see if I qualify or not. I don't think I'll ever get strong enough to pull a bow back and hold it well enough to ethically take a shot on a live animal. So, fingers crossed!!!!

Just a question, A person who meets the criteria to use a crossbow in this state, can they use a scope on it or do they have to use open sights???

I just got my special weapon use permit at the end of last year as well.  Had the companion card for a couple of years and now I'm looking forward to coming back into the hunting aspect of the group instead of the camp kitchen guy ha ha.  I've had multiple surgeries and can't bird hunt anymore along with rifle hunting.   The family does archery and it sure feels good to part of the team again.  Yes, you can use a scope, however according to what they tell me from the state the scope must come attached as part of the purchase of the crossbow.  I just recently went through it all and honestly the state people in Olympia were great to deal with and walked me through the entire process.

Wait, so you can use a scoped cross bow during archery season or is that only during the general modern season?

I just saw a commercial on a hunting show for a scoped crossbow that gives you two shots without doing anything in between shots. It's all ready to go once initially loaded , will be next years debate here and rule proposal lol.

Raises an interesting question.  A lot of crossbows are sold as a package with scope.  Will these crossbow with 2 - 8x scopes be legal for everyone during muzzleloader season?
Economy failure = Too many people spending money they don't have on things they don't need to impress people they don't like.

Weird. Seems kinda unfair the disability is for the shoulder or something else not the eyes so why allow optics?

The reason Optics are allowed is because almost every single crossbow comes with a scope and there are not very many manufacturers that make open sights and the open sites are expensive I know cuz I have one sitting in a box because when I got my special use permit scope for not legal on crossbows
