Kids ponds on the west side?
« on: March 24, 2021, 01:30:10 PM »
Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone has info for a kids pond or something like that. I have a 5 and 2 year old I'd love to take out to catch some fish. Catch and release is just fine just want them to feel the tug and reel em in. Willing to travel quite a bit since locally I haven't had much luck myself. Any info is appreciated.

If you are local from tacoma to Olympia and have a private pond full of fish and are willing to let my kids fish it I have a pound of retumbo for you or can pay cash

Not as many as there used to be.

Long's Pond near Oly comes to mind:

DeCoursey Pond near Puyallup

Fort Borst Lake right off freeway in Centralia is not juv only, but it's in a nice park and easy to fish and gets planted

For can't miss pay to play, Jim's U-Fish near Spanaway

There is a lake in Lacey that is for kids 14 and under and is stocked. Can’t remember what it’s called b you fished there a lot as a kid.

That’s the one. I remember riding the bus when I was 13 and catching 14fish in 14casts there from the dock. It’s a nice little pond.

Take a drive out to Lewis lake on jblm range. It has the cable hang on it for training. Maybe totally grown over now. Use to fish it in high school alot, good size trout and even bigger bass. Use to fish Sequalichew on North fort also and little American from shore. Good luck

Like millerwheeler said Bradley Lake behind Walmart on South Hill. Tacoma Sportsman's Club is having their 60th Kids Fishing Derby in May at Bradley. No charge, we provide coffee/sodas donuts in the morning hotdogs and chips for lunch. We also provide bait and rods & reels if needed. The TSC BOD has approved purchasing additional fish to supplement the WDFW stock.

I drilled a tiny hole through some fish kibbles, put my line through that and tied a knot in the line to keep the kibble from sliding off easily.
About gave the wife a heart attack when she saw me fighting one of her Koi... It REALLY did not want to let go of it! Knot finally pulled through. All good.
Not sure if there is a Koi pond close by, but it does provide a ‘feel’ at least.
Cuterebra are NOT cute!

Hahahaah I like it!!

Might have to recon the neighborhood and see what jumbos I can get the kiddos on.

Might even open up a guide service in the future.

Sounds awesome greg I'll keep that in mind for my son.

Mainly looking to hit as many spot as possible this weekend into next week as I'll have my oldest with me as well. Maybe when she's with me for the summer we can do more

It's open all year, for kids, seniors and ADA folks.

I used to take my kids to the Fort Borst kids only fishing lake in Centralia,  just a little further south. Good kids lake , nice park with play toys , reastraunts,  and the outlet stores for the mom to kill time. Right on I-5 , nice afternoon for sure. Have fun .
