Potholes/Moses Walleye
« on: March 14, 2021, 11:05:57 PM »
Hi I am looking for any tips. tricks, pointers or any other help. I am planning a trip to the Moses lake/ Potholes area in April. I'm looking to mainly target walleye in Potholes or Moses however I won't turn down any other opportunities to catch a few other species. I've fished walleye one other time a few years back with no success and I'm lookin for anything anyone's got. Thanks in advance it's greatly appreciated.

I have found Potholes to usually be more productive than Moses in April. Hope you have a great trip!

If you go to potholes check in with Mardons, they have a map of the lake and will tell you what is working as for catching walleyes, they probably could recommend a guide service to help you out. It's like anything else, you have to put time in to learn how to catch them. Good luck and enjoy your time on the water.

That's good advice.  I've been there for a walleye trip in the middle of a bass tourney.  Wow did that suck.

Agree with all the above.  I'm a noob for walleye and did came out during a bass tourney - not cool.  Definitely check with the resort.  My guess is that they will be in shallow around the dunes feeding on all the little spiny rays and bait fish that are also hiding out in the warmer shallow water.  Got my first walleye there last year. Was trolling a blade bate with nightcrawler.  Weeds are a mess back in there though.

I would target the end of the month. they should be wrapping up the spawn by then and once they do, they are hungry. Also there will be guys prefishing (me included) for the walleye tournament the first weekend of may on potholes. Great way to learn areas, just don't go and do something crazy like anchor up in the middle of a bunch of boats trolling an area and there is plenty of room.

I think that's the weekend of the potholes open. Its usually the last weekend of April. I wouldn't worry to much about them if you are going after walleye.
