Muzzle loader help!!!

So I picked up a Rem 700 ML today. It’s older that takes the musket 11 caps not the newer ultimate. Anyways how do I know what powders and how much to use? Also what’s a decent deer bullet to use? It will be upgraded to 209 by opening day.

I wouldnt worry about the 209s. Use RWS #11 caps and your good to go. I would start with 110 grains of 777 and some barnes 250 grain bullets if your only chasing deer or some lehigh defense somewhere around 260 grain bullets or heavier if your wanting to hunt elk also.

Assuming your saying Hodgson triple 7. Does it matter if I use pellets or or not? Would it matter?

Check the internet for an user guide for your rifle and it will have a lot of loading data which will be a safe starting point.  If your looking for #11 percussion caps send me a pm.   Good luck and have fun.

Any black powder substitute up to 150 grains will work fine.  Don't exceed 150 grains.....most often 90-120 grains will work the best.  Find a good 250 grain saboted bullet and get to shooting.  209 primers are nice but definitely not needed.  Nice muzzy.....as a point of reference for the future, the ramrod is a different diameter than standard muzzy ramrods.  If you loose, break, shoot your ramrod....it can be more difficult to find another.  May be worth picking a spare up to have on hand.

I never had problems with 150 grn of pellets after i changed primer and accuracy in my cva was 2in at 100 guess i got lucky

Remington recommends 120 gr FFG MAX.  I use 110 gr FFFG T7 with 290 TEZ Barnes.

Sorry, poor wording on my part. Your right. Sometimes the pellets have exactly what you need for the right load. More often its easier to get the right load with powder.

Arrowhead still had parts to sell.  I called him to order, but that has been over a year ago.
