Congrats, now he'll need to get a Rio and Merriam this year for the grand slam!

Congrats.  Wish we had a bigger population on the west side.  It would make for a shorter drive.

I'd just like to know where a few of those on the West side were so I could go listen to them gobble and drink some coffee as the sun came up.  Congrats to the youth hunter!  and I'm sure he is very appreciative of his guide  ;)

Wow!!!

I don't claim to be a turkey expert, but isn't getting his west side bird like 95% of the way there to a grand slam?

Good luck if you go for it.

Awesome job.  Private or public land?  Yup that is the hardest for the WA slam.  A US Grand Slam would be all 4 subspecies.  Rio, Merriam, Eastern and Osceola.

Congratulations !!!  On his first turkey and  the Eastern Wild Turkey !

After more than 20 years trying, if I finally do shoot an Eastern bird, I would no longer hunt them for myself.  I would only take other people hunting to get their one Eastern bird.  Also, I think if a hunter takes someone else out who gets an Eastern, both hunters should get credit for the WA Slam when they each get a Rio and a Merriam's., too.
Maybe that would take some pressure off the birds on the West side.   :twocents:
