I tried getting this to go into the stairwell for about 45 minutes. Spinning it every way I could think of. It looks like I am going to have to have a taxidermist remount it with detachable horns :dunno:

Those mounts are tremendous, you won't regret the cost.

On the upside...  if you ever have a home intrusion executed by a gang of 7x7 bull elk in the fall, you now know your safe room is anywhere up those stairs!

I am going to have to take the window out, then use a bucket truck to lift him through

Coach had his CO bull from a few years ago pinned and man after seeing how easy that makes them I'll never mount a bull without doing that. Can't remember how much it added but it was pretty minimal.

This makes me want a brown bear  :chuckle:

Where is the thread (story) on this bull?  How much is it to have detachable antlers on a mount??  Great bull

I have not posted a story, as I killed that bull before I was a member on here.

I got this bull in Oregon about 10 years ago in a draw unit. This bull was hanging out in front of a popular glassing pull off for a few days before season opened. There were about 5 guys watching other than me. I went in at 3 am on opening day, I got into position where I figured I would have a 500 yard shot at the bull if he showed up that day. About 30 minutes before daylight I see 4 headlamps walking down the ridge towards me, and they were walking on the side of the ridge that would be in plain sight of the bull. When they got about 200 yards from me, an elk ran by me at about 35 yards then dumped into the basin behind me. (I feel that elk was this bull and he had just came to my side of the canyon while feeding, sloppy hunting techniques by the other group spooked this bull into another area.) I never seen that bull the first day, during the day light anyways. I had a 320 bull feed out below me and I passed on it. It was three days later when I got to see this bull again. He went into a timber patch a few ridges over, and I did not see him come out of it. It took me several hours to get into range of where the bull last was shortly after daylight. I set up in a rock out cropping across from where I figured the bull would show up that night. Late morning two guys walked less than 200 yards above where I figured the bull was bedded and they had bad wind. I set up to get ready for a quick shot if the bull came running out of the timber patch. Nothing happened. A few hours later it sounded like world war three on the back side of the ridge, but again the bull did not pop up. I sat there glassing every opening that he could show up in. At this point I was unsure if the bull was still there. I found it odd that he would hold tight with bad wind from other hunters, and then 6 or 8 shots being fired less than 500 yards from him and he did not run out. At 1:45 pm a nasty storm blew in, with marble sized hail. About five minutes later this bull pops out of 4 trees in the center of the clearing I had been watching for hours. It turns out he was not in the timber patch at all he had bedded in a patch of four trees in the center of a 300 yard clear cut. When I seen him he stood up and then came running down the canyon towards me to get into the timber and out of the hail.  I was trying to follow him down the hill in the scope but he was running and it was hard to stay on him. I was getting ready to take a 300 yards trotting shot at him when he slowed to a walk about 20 yards from the timber. I shot and he stopped and hunched up, I quickly reloaded and shot again and he bolted into the timber. He ended up dying about 10 feet into the timber patch.

I wish I would have put removable horns on it, at my last house it worked fine. Now, not so much!

The brown bear was one of my favorite hunts. As you know anytime you go to Alaska it is truly an adventure  (and if I remember right you have family up there, I think I read a Mt goat hunt on Kodiak that you wrote, I would definitely be setting up a brown bear hunt with that option)

Great bull and story, thanks for sharing.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.
