Deer combo unsuccessful with 3 pref points. :bash:
are you sure you did your app correctly or did indeed have 3pts? Its a preference point system so 3pt gets tags before anyone with 2pts or 1pt and I know guys who had 1pt that pulled tags. May be worth a call if you did indeed have 3pts :twocents:

Yeah that does seem screwy.  Although I don't think it's quite that simple - last year for the combo draw goHunt says 2 pref points was 100%, 1 point was was 69% and 0 points was 65%.  Not really sure why 1 and 0 points were so close together on a true pref point system (?)

Because there is a small portion that is randomly drawn?

Got lucky & drew an MT Deer Combo. Congrats & good hunting to those that drew!  There's still the Alternate List for a chance to pull a tag.

If my research is correct and all of the applicants in the group had 3 preference points each, this should be an impossible outcome.  Something is not correct.

We got our six deer tags.  But we drew in the Landowner drawing.

Bonus points vs preference maybe?  :dunno:

75% of tags are allocated to point holders.  After that 25% are random. So likely the small percentage of 1pt holders that didn't draw likely didn't make the 75% cut and got tossed into the random pool. As dvolmer stated, not drawing with 3 is currently impossible.

Possible to do!!!  But getting luckier/harder and luckier/harder each year.  25% of the licenses go in a random draw.  This is a good strategy if you want to get a license and hunt in Montana every 3 to 4 years on average would be my guess.
