Kettle Falls area?
« on: April 11, 2021, 09:35:57 PM »
I have been hunting (unsuccessfully) on the west side for the last few years, was thinking about trying east side this year, but I don't know the area at all. However my cousin and her husbands family just bought about 40 acers somewhere between kettle falls and Inchelium. They are also hunters so I know I can hunt on their property, but what about public land in that area? or prospects in that area in general? I'd appreciate any help

Sounds like you need to download onxmaps so you can see what public is available. Some timber companies allow hunting as well. Hopefully that 40 acres isn’t in inchelium though that’s on the Rez...

What are you looking to hunt? Deer? Turkey? Bear? Elk?

All of the above lol and they don't have a house on there yet, so no address yet, so not sure where exactly it is, they just said between kettle falls and inchelium. if the property was on the rez would that still prevent me (us) hunting on their own property?

I don’t know the answer to hunting your own property on the Rez is if it is legal to do. I’d just assume you can’t.

You shouldn’t have any problems finding public ground to hunt lots of deer, turkey and bear around. You’ll have to spend lots of time to figure out where the elk could be though. They are few and far between.

I don't think you own the land, aren't they all on long lease contracts?

You do own the land. It has been deeded out of the rez at some point in the past. You pay taxes to ferry County and get building permits from ferry County but the tribe has to inspect the property and sign off before any building. Even if you already have a house and want to add-on or build a garage etc. the tribe has to give the OK. I have sold several properties on the rez and have gone through the process.

update, cousins property is on the rez, right on the border, while I cant legally hunt on their property all I have to do is cross the access road and I'm on public land. so there's that.
